EDEN4The Eden Project: Humanity’s Last Chance by DP Fitzsimons
Genre: Science Fiction, YA dystopian romance
Price: .99
Where to Get It:
Amazon

There was only one rule: NEVER LEAVE THE DOME.

Inside the dome, 117 tube-born kids lived free of contamination. Trained since birth, they were almost ready to launch their ships and leave the dying planet behind. They were humanity’s final hope to avoid extinction. Their mission would be to explore the farthest reaches of the galaxy seeking out a habitable world free of the C-1 virus.

They tried not to think of conditions outside the dome where the virus had driven the last of the uninfected into the ground, into dark bunkers where they waited to be rooted out by cannibalistic hordes. Streets had become boneyards. Weeds grew inside long-forgotten government buildings.

Fifteen-year-old Genevieve Fifthborn knew all this, she was fully aware that the world was coming to an end, but on the island of The Eden Project she had much bigger problems, boy problems. Only her first love might risk far more than a broken heart, it just might bring about the end of our species.

What they’re saying about it:

Its 4 AM and I literally couldn’t put this book down all night. What an amazingly well thought out story. Its got Sci-Fi, a touch of horror, suspense, intrigue, and romance.

Andrea McNelly’s job as a government agent is not asking questions, but then a routine assignment turns into a botched assassination of a Master Vampire’s human servant. Answers become a priority. Her search to discover the truth is riddled with obstacles, the largest being an oversized Werewolf who resembles a Norse god. Andy can’t afford the distraction he offers, because if she fails, she faces eternal enslavement.

Wick’s job is to monitor Andy, but he prefers more intimate activities, none of them G-Rated. His choices, however, are often not his own. His ability to help Andy is limited by his bond to the Master Vampire.

Facing many trials and challenges along her path to redemption, Andy learns the value of her freedom might be set too high.

What they’re saying about it:

Shift Happens is a wonderful new book from debut author J.C.McKenzie

It’s been 70+ years since The Purge – the era in which supernatural beings were exposed to the world. Andrea (Andy) McNelly, SRD (Supernatural Regulatory Division) agent is not your usual shapeshifter. Her special abilities along with her not-so-pleasant past result in the sass and brass she uses to overcome the challenges she must face. (None of which I’ll spoil here.)

It’s not just Andy but the wonderful cast of supporting characters that had me hooked. Blond Norse-god-like werewolf Wick, sinfully handsome (or is that sinful and handsome?) human servant Clint, chiseled-featured Asian vampire Allan, and the citrus & sunshine wereleopard Tristan (meow!)

This is the first book in a series planned by Ms McKenzie, and while Shift Happens stands alone on its own, I can’t wait for more!!

Haunted by the girl he couldn’t save in his youth, and the murder he committed to avenge her, Detective Track Presius has a unique gift: the vision and sense of smell of a predator. When a series of apparently unrelated murders reel him into the depths of genetic research, Track feels more than a call to duty. Children are dying, children who, like himself, could have been healthy, and yet something, at some point, went terribly wrong. For Track, saving the innocent becomes a quest for redemption. The only way he can come to terms with his dark past is to understand his true nature.

What they’re saying about it:

Lily C (Goodreads review): I don’t usually read crime novels, but this one kept me riveted from the first page with its vivid sensory descriptions, intelligently-paced plot, and unexpected bursts of humor. I was impressed by how well-thought-out the scientific aspects of the story were, from Track’s complex perception of smell, to the workings of genetic research.

Carolyn Fahm (Amazon review): I loved this book from the very first sentence because of the language that reminded me of Raymond Chandler’s immortal Philip Chandler. I can tell when a book is good by how much I miss the characters after I finish the story, and, in this case, I find myself thinking of Track and what his life might be now that the mystery has been solved.
