Abby Hawkins was never normal. Born with a birth cowl–a rare birth  defect thought to predict psychic abilities–she is haunted by horrible  visions. Shortly after her 13th birthday, Abby’s parents call in the  mysterious Crowley to help their daughter. His interventions rid her of  the visions…and her eyes.
*
Now a beautiful young lady, Abby  Hawkins works as a blind fortune teller in a traveling Carnival. When  she receives a powerful vision–one depicting the abduction of a little  girl–she becomes the sole witness to the crime. Only a young police  officer believes her bizarre story, and with his help she embarks upon  an investigation that will ultimately reunite her with the madman from  her past and bring her to the hellish threshold of Crowley’s Window.

*
What they’re saying about it:
*
“Just finished reading this short story, and I can honestly say that I  enjoyed it. The story had heart and guts, the characters were believable and real, and the writing was imaginative and well thought out. I’m  going to read the second book called The Reluctant Anarchist, because  I’m interested in reading something that exercises my brain. This author has talent and I recommend you give him a shot.

*
Cole Manning, a Union lieutenant serving during the height of the  American Civil War, expects a letter from his best girl who promised to wait for  him.  But her post contains an unwelcome surprise.   Heartbroken,  he vows no woman will ever fool him again.

*
Claire Hirsch’s fiancé died  in battle during the first year of the war.  Scarred by his death, she  realizes loving a soldier can only lead to heartache.  Not wanting to sit  home and mourn, she volunteers to assist doctors in the camps.

*
As  the war rages around them, Cole and Claire find solace in each other’s arms. But  is their love strong enough to overcome the fear of losing the one they  love?

*
What they’re saying about it:

“The plot was intriguing, and had  great attention to detail for the men on the front line and how they battled  their way through day after day. I really liked the dialogue between both the  heroine and heroine, as well as how they interacted with the secondary  characters because it revealed quite well how a nurse handled the pressures of  looking after a soldier when he was wounded and how protective the soldiers were  of each other when dealing with the enemy. The sex scenes were great and just  right for Claire didn’t have any experience when it came to men, so Cole treated  her perfectly….this tale of times at war and romance has given me a love for  the Historical genre, and I can’t wait to read more books like this one in the  future.” ~ The Romance Studio

When Civil War reenactor, Kyle Dalton, keeps seeing a  beautiful woman on the battlefield tending to soldiers, he thinks she’s another  reenactor. But when she disappears into thin air, he starts to believe he’s seen  a ghost. Did he have a past life with this woman?
*
What they’re saying  about it:
*
Dreaming Josie is such an incredible read. I loved it and was  sorry to see it end. Loved learning about the Civil War re-en-actors. But the  best part was the love between Josie and Kyle that came through time. Such a  romantic story.
*
I loved Dreaming Josie. It’s a great love story with  paranormal elements. I love the way Ms. Macatee switches between the present  time and the past. The switches are done seamlessly and kept me reading. I  couldn’t put this book down. The information about the Civil War reenacters is  very interesting. I wish I could have gotten to know the present-day heroine a  little better. This book is too short. I wanted to keep reading. This would make  an excellent full-length novel if the author chose to do that. I highly  recommend Dreaming Josie.

The Ghost Child by Simeon Stoychev
Type: Novella
Genre: Dark Fantasy
Price: 99 cents
Where to get it:
Amazon (Kindle)

*
In the dead of winter, raiders cross the frozen waters of the Dunav to pillage towns and villages along the river. When darkness falls and the war party retreats before the coming blizzard, they stumble upon one last farmstead. There they encounter a mysterious child, and the hunters suddenly become the hunted.
This is the story of Magz, of his little sister Jackie, and their harrowing struggle to survive.
*
What they’re saying about it:
*
“Epic. The protagonist is a stranger searching for a child who’s one of the few survivors after a raiding party slaughters everyone in a northern village. No one seems to know what he’s talking about though, and he gets a translator and heads into the tribelands to investigate.
*
The perspective of the story is beautifully done and switches halfway through to a boy called Magz and his
family. The tense of the story also shifts, and the second half feels almost dreamlike. The vivid imagery of winter, the land described as a sort of snow desert, the crows and desolation are all very evocative.
*
I loved the descriptions of the family as well and what Magz sees from his perspective. The action sequences were especially well done. Highly recommended.”

A stay in the Derbyshire countryside should be the perfect rest for Theodore Baker. There he ought to be able to forget his wearisome secret duty and the monsters he hunts, at least for a little while.

But first he witnesses the peculiar behavior of a girl…then he hears of the girl’s great-aunt, who was a strange and special woman, and about the ruins she used to visit on a lonely hilltop. Next comes a sudden death and Theodore finds himself in an unexpected dilemma.  Monsters he can handle…but what about the rising power of a young witch?

What they’re saying about it:

“This is one of the most imaginative and captivating stories I have read in a long time. There is mystery, adventure and more than enough twists that I became caught up in Theodore Baker’s life, and could not tear myself away until I reached the conclusion of the novella….Beautifully structured, and carefully edited; this is a unique monster story that is also a delight to read.”
