Bookstore owner and novice antiquarian, Sebastian Kaine is proud of his new profession and even prouder still of the collection of antique books on the occult that he keeps locked away in the basement of his bookstore. But his little utopia implodes when he wakes up in that same basement, bound and bloodied, and his prized collection all but destroyed. Making matters worse are the two strange men responsible for the carnage. They want The Seals of Abgal and insist Sebastian has it. Though he denies having any knowledge of the book, Sebastian soon finds himself at the receiving end of a violent interrogation–one, he fears, he may not survive. As he fights to stay alive, Sebastian will learn that The Seals of Abgal is no ordinary grimoire, and these men are no ordinary thugs.

Homeschoolers understand that a solid high school education involves  more than just the standard high school courses.  Yes, it is true that  mastering science, math, and literature is important for homeschoolers – and vitally important if college lies ahead.  But equally important are those subjects that the student is passionate about,  subjects that  they will study for hours on end, “just for the fun of it.”

This  delight directed learning is the true “secret sauce” of a great  homeschool education.  It will help your student stand out in a crowd of college applicants.  It can launch a career in business, or industry,  or the Arts.  It can lead to life-changing internships and real world  work experience.  It can open doors not just to college, but to life!

What are these delight directed topics?  How can you recognize them?  How  can you help your student discover them?  How can they be captured and  reflected on your student’s educational records?  These questions and  more are answered in “Delight Directed Learning,” the second book in Lee Binz’s brand new series, Coffee Break Books.   The first book in this  series, “Planning High School Courses,” describes the traditional high  school courses that every homeschool student who is leaning toward  college should cover.  This companion volume captures the other  components of a solid homeschool education, the extra, sometimes  non-traditional, subjects that make your child unique!

Designed  especially for parents who don’t want to spend hours and hours reading a 400-page book on homeschooling high school, this series combines Lee’s  practical and friendly approach with detailed, but easy-to-digest  information, perfect to read over a cup of coffee at your favorite  coffee shop!  Never overwhelming, always accessible and manageable,  each book in the series will give parents the tools they need to tackle  the tasks of homeschooling high school, one warm sip at a time.

Lee Binz, The HomeScholar, understands what it takes to graduate homeschool students who are fully prepared for college and for life.  Lee’s  practical advice and organized presentations have helped thousands of  homeschool parents muster the courage to complete their homeschooling  journey. She is both reassuring and empowering, and will give you the  knowledge you need to successfully graduate your high school student,  and have confidence that they are ready to take on the world.

A  firm believer that homeschooling provides the best possible learning  environment, and that parents are capable of providing a superior  education for their children, Lee’s mission is to encourage and equip  parents to homeschool through high school.

P.I. Duke Rogers finds himself in a combustible situation in this racially charged thriller. His case might have to wait… The immediate problem: getting out of South Central Los Angeles in one piece during the 1992 “Rodney King” riots and that’s just the beginning of his problems.

While Duke tracks down the killer he must also deal with the racism of his partner, Jack, and from Warren, the murder victim’s brother. He must also confront his own possible latent racism – even as he’s in an interracial relationship with the dead woman’s sister.

What they’re saying about it:

White Heat is a “…taut crime yarn set in 1992 against the turmoil of the Los Angeles riots that followed the acquittal of the police officers charged with assaulting motorist Rodney King…. the author ably evokes the chaos that erupted after the Rodney King verdict.”–Publishers Weekly

But Colby has a secret in her past, a secret she’s not sure her daughter will ever forgive her for. And as for Ian McKinley, he seems too good to be true. If she had learned anything from the one time she had thrown her heart fully into love, it was that it didn’t last.

Harbouring an unmentionable secret is not an obvious route to maternal bliss……….or is it?
%
Ali Kirk’s had a bad year. An ambitious London barrister, her courtroom performances have started to slide and her obsession with having a baby is undermining her relationship with boyfriend Adam. Come January 1st she resolves that in the next twelve months her life has to turn around.
%
Life, however, is about to get worse. Busy juggling fertility tests with a high-profile celebrity case at the Old Bailey, Ali starts burning the midnight oil with powerfully handsome colleague Anthony de Klerk. On a night that she’s slipped on some sexy underwear to boost her flagging self-esteem, Ali and Anthony finally end up in bed together. And then she falls pregnant. Ali starts fighting her very own secret paternity suit – who is the father, Adam or Anthony?
^
En route to motherhood there are highs and lows, tears and tantrums, dalliances and denials. And the ultimate, uncomfortable realisation that only one thing will set Ali free: the truth.

What they’re saying about it:

It’s entertaining, and I like the author’s voice in this book. I always like to read something a little different than most books in this genre, and this was definitely different (in a good way, of course).

I LOVED this book. It was so good that the last bit kept me awake way past my bedtime – it was impossible to put down! The story was well written and the characters easy to identify with straight away. It was a great story with some interesting little twists and a realistic take on modern day life and all the expectations that go with that. A mixture of detective, love, intrigue and suspense! It’s the sort of book that makes you question your own morals and principals! What would I have done in Ali’s situation – would I have got into it in the first place??

One day, Callie Vanetta receives devastating news…

She needs a liver transplant. But her doctors warn that, in her case, the chances of finding a compatible donor aren’t good.

Determined to spend whatever time she has left on her own terms, she keeps the diagnosis to herself and moves out to her late grandparents’ farm. She’s always wanted to live there. But the farm hasn’t been worked in years and she begins to fear she can’t manage it, that she’ll have to return to town.

One night, a stranger comes knocking at her door…

He’s an attractive and mysterious drifter by the name of Levi McCloud, and he offers to trade work for a few nights’ shelter. Callie figures she doesn’t have anything to lose. He needs a place to stay until he can fix his motorcycle; she needs an extra pair of hands. The arrangement seems ideal until what was supposed to be temporary starts to look more and more permanent. Then she realizes she doeshave something to lose—her heart. And, although he doesn’t yet know it, Levi stands to lose even more.

What they’re saying about it:

The characters’ “heartwarming romance develops slowly and sweetly. The sex is fantastic, but the best part is how Simon and Gail tease and laugh as they grow closer.” -Publishers Weekly on When Lightning Strikes

“Novak delivers a lively, sparkling series debut…romantic gold by a superior novelist. The love story blossoms naturally, which is rare nowadays…. Additionally, by populating Whiskey Creek with realistic characters-instead of ‘quirky’ caricatures-Novak ensures that readers will eagerly await their next visit.” -RT Book Reviews on When Lightning Strikes

^
Separated by distance, the friendship seems to have ended, until it takes an unexpected turn, when Sarah returns to Dorset with her new found love. This time, it is Laura who is in despair, struggling with her marriage – facing an adversity that will test her inner most strength in ways that she would have never imagined.

As the United States enters World War II, military commanders send their best officers to set up an amphibious training camp on Florida’s desolate Gulf coast. Major Occam Goodwin anticipates challenges—swamps, snakes, alligators, hurricanes—and the daunting task of turning twenty thousand green recruits into warriors. But when his surveyors discover a murdered black family deep in the forest, he must dance delicately around military politics, and a race war that threatens the entire war effort.
*
Here, in this harsh but mystically beautiful land, young recruits test themselves to the limit in love and combat; politicos and tycoons offer aid with one eye to profit; women patrol the coast on horseback, looking for German subs; a postmaster’s daughter, the only child on base, inspires thousands; a determined woman bravely holds together her family and the emotional soul of the camp. Amid tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the soldiers and their country hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to find his destiny.
&
Based on the true story of Camp Gordon Johnston, this novel is about young men on the brink of war, and a country on the brink of civil rights, a tale of soldiers and officers, daughters and mothers, death and redemption, and a man unyielding in his integrity, compassion, and struggle for justice.
